still from projection in installation “Suprematist Manual”
On monday the 29th of January 2007 I will give a talk in the NAI in Rotterdam, as part of the ‘Luminaries’-lecture series which accompanies the ‘Speed of Light’-exhibition which is part of the ‘Exploding Cinema’ section of the Rotterdam Film Festival.
The programme will start at 15h and that day the other speakers will be Eleonore Schöffer (the widow of Nicolas Schöffer) and Rogier van der Heide (architectural lighting designer).
My talk will be about the backgrounds to the visual essay I made as a paper counter counterpart of my installation ‘Suprematist Manual’, currently on exhibition as part of ‘The Projection Project’, at the Muhka in Antwerp. Guided by my interpretation of written fragments by Kazimir Malevich, I will try to make a bridge between my ‘suprematist’ classification of historical moving image machines and current ideas about artificial life art.
See Luminaries at International Film Festival Rotterdam, Projection Project at Muhka and “Suprematist Manual” and “Seven Suprematist Revolutions” at light matters.
